Sethulakshmi M is an alumnus of College of Architecture, Trivandrum. She was trained as an intern at Two i architects, Calicut headed by Noufal C Hashim, and later kept working with him as a junior architect. The firm has demonstrated its aptitude in different genres of works, managing residential, commercial and institutional projects. She believes that an architectural firm must be close to the heart of its clients. The user should be able to relate to the ambience of a space with his nature, way of life and emotions.

“As a budding professional, it is very important to be able to communicate and collaborate with your contemporaries. Being a part of WADE has made it easier to network among contemporaries as well as higher ups.”

Do you think architecture has the power to build better communities? How?

Architecture has the power to build a better community. As an architect, I give credence to social responsibility. What we design influences the built environment, which in turn can influence the way we live and behave with each other.

For example, If we move to a new place, we will adapt and adjust to that place. Likewise, if we create a new environment, people can engage in several activities. Thus architecture can, by being sustainable and rendering systems for better space management and overall well-being of inhabitants, lead to better communities of people.

How has interactions with artists, architects and designers in WADE developed your perspective towards art and architecture?

WADE has an amazing mix of women, creative in their respective fields and working in numerous ways to create better spaces. Interacting with such interesting people has enabled me to aspire better for the art and architecture community.

As a WADE Woman & WADE Winner, how would you contribute towards other fellow professionals?

I believe that architecture can change one’s perspective of seeing the society and every architect should work for its cause. A good architecture itself is a relation with its context, people and how it contributes to the community and nature.
