AR SHEILA SRI PRAKASH

WADE SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPION AWARD 2022

For Special Contribution towards the Green Building Concept

Sheila Sri Prakash is an internationally acclaimed architect, urban designer, and sustainability expert. She is known for her unique architectural theories surrounding ‘reciprocity in design’. Ar. Prakash is the first Indian architect to serve on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Design Innovation (role of arts in society). Born in a family with defense background, Ar. Prakash started learning Bharatnatyam at an early age which helped her find her focus and passion. Architecture was something that came naturally to her. She studied Architecture at the Anna University School of Architecture and Planning in Chennai. She founded Shilpa Architects Planners Designers in 1979, becoming the first woman in India to have started and operated her own architectural practice.

However, the journey wasn’t a smooth sail. She faced bias at many points in her life. But the high-spirited lady fought all odds and kept going. And, today, her portfolio includes numerous acclaimed architectural projects in India and around the world. She stands out for her achievements and contribution to sustainable design thinking. She has been awarded the “Bene Merenti” (2017) Medallion by The University of Architecture and Urbanism, Bucharest, Romania (est. in 1952) and the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research. This award is part of the global acknowledgement she receives for championing the cause of Sustainability in international forums. Listed amongst the “Top 100 Most Influential Architects in the World” by Il Giornale dell’ Architectura, today, Sheila Sri Prakash is one of the most sought-after architects at global level. WADE ASIA 2022 was glad to confer the ‘Green WADE’ – WADE Sustainability Champion Award to the dexterous lady.
