WADe was delighted to welcome the ‘woman of substance’ Dr Kiran Bedi, WADe’s Guest of Honour for the launch event who gave a powerful ‘Opening speech’ in front of the architects & designers. Here are some excerpts from is Dr. Bedi’s message:
“I want to thank Vertica & Madhu because this is the first time I have got an invitation for attending an event related to Women in Architecture & Design. I loved it because I love this profession and my respect for what you stand for. The country needs you.
I have a building in the rural set up where we have a rural school. I had Ar Lauri Baker to do it for me. That building doesn’t need an air conditioner, it’s built with local materials and a lot of air circulation. It is such an amazing place. I had no idea of this; I just told what I need. So I think that’s the partnership we are looking at.”
The Inaugural keynote during WADe ASIA 2017 was delivered by Padma Bhushan awardee, renowned artist and art curator, Shri Rajeev Sethi, one of South Asia’s leading designer, a man who is often credited to bringing the art scene in the Hospitality Industry in India, credited to curate the ‘Jaye He’ Art Walk at Mumbai T2 Airport, amongst numerous other projects, someone who has devoted years to revive, restore contemporaries traditional Indian Arts, Crafts, even performance arts. He is the founder of Rajeev Sethi Scenographers as well as Asian Heritage Foundation in New Delhi.
He said, “I am delighted, to see people from South Asia in WADe Asia. More power to you so that this forum grows and I’m sure only women will do it. Men might be much slower. They should really connect here with women from all over south Asia and be able to make a statement that needs to be heard!”
In its 3rd year now, WADe Asia has emerged as a powerful & premier architecture, art and design event of India. Apart from top architects like Ar Sanjay Puri giving tribute to Zaha Hadid or Sussane Khan & Zarine Khan talking about how the daughter grew as a designer with mom’s support, WADe Asia has a lot of space for Young and Potential designers. There is a speaking session called “CHANGE MAKERS” specially designed for young ones to share INNOVATIONS and IDEAS.
Your talk will be filmed and an edit shown on our website and other social media channels such as YouTube. We believe your “voice” will be beneficial to like-minded individuals who attend the event.
