Women Architects Honored at Women Economic Forum (WEF) 2017, Delhi
Renowned names from the architecture and design industry including Ar. Revathi Kamath, Ar. Sabeena Khanna, Pragati Jain, Ar. Shweta Deshmukh, Ar. Aarushi Bafna along with Founder-Director of Surfaces Reporter Magazine and WADe India, Vertica Dvivedi, got honored in the recently held Women Economic Forum 2017 at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Dwarka, New Delhi for their exceptional contribution. WEF is associated with the global movement of ALL Ladies League, an “internet” of women with over 70,000 members across 150 countries, having chapters of “self-help” and support with a culture of sisterhood. The forum is known for offering a compelling platform worldwide to bring together a rich confluence of inspiring women leaders from all walks of life. This year’s theme for the forum remained “Wealth and Wellness” and they had summoned successful people from different industries to grace the panel as speakers. Some were felicitated with awards as well.
VETERAN ARCHITECT, REVATHI KAMATH
Veteran architect, Revathi Kamath who is also the Principal Architect of her firm Kamath Design Studio has contributed tremendously towards the design industry through her ingenious works as well as vision. Born in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, in 1955, Kamath is an alumni of School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi. She is a pioneer of mud architecture in India. Apart from this, she is also credited with building the tallest stainless steel structure in India. Revathi spoke in-detail about mud-architecture at the event – while also showcasing few of her best projects.

AR. SABEENA KHANNA
Creative head of the Studio KIA based in Gurgaon, Ar. Sabeena Khanna, is the recipient of Le-Corbusier Gold Medal in 1987 from Chandigarh College of Architecture. The lady is a Fellow member of Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and Associate member of Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) as well as on the juries for many a renowned architectural awards, recognizing fresh talent. While on podium, the lady stressed upon the idea of sustainable architecture and how “going-green” could be of help.

INTERIOR DESIGNER, PRAGATI JAIN
Pragati Jain established her practice in 1990 as a very modest Interior design firm in Indore. Gradually, with time and each project, she built a team that has now become an intrinsic part of the firm’s functioning. The primary concerns that determine her firm’s design process revolve around the function, client’s lifestyle, their needs and the possibility of minimalistic expression but keeping the essences traditional. Pragati who came all the way from Indore went on reveal few little known secrets from her journey to the world of design. The designer has done several residential, commercial and conservational projects.

AR. SHWETA DESHMUKH
No wonder the audience was immensely moved by the speech of Ar. Shweta Deshnukh who openly spoke about her disease – epilepsy, and how she coped-up with that. Ar. Deshmukh possesses Bachelor’s in Architecture with a specialization in Construction Management from NICMAR, Pune. In her successful tenure of 15 years in the filed of architecture, she has predominantly worked on weekend Homes, Multiplex & Mall, Green Houses, Farm Houses, Various Commercial & Residential turnkey Interiors. She also works on Unconventional Construction Systems. She is the founder of an online portal for architecture & design consultancy called as Dezinebox .

BUDDING ARCHITECT, AARUSHI BAFNA
Ar. Aarushi Bafna is a budding architect and designer. Bafna is currently involved in doing commercial projects with a renowned chef and a few other residential projects. Besides this, she is in the process of establishing her own design studio. Being a design enthusiast, she is also part of art classes for underprivileged. At a very young age of 25, the lady has been lucky to be felicitated with various awards and achievements in the field of design. It was good to see Aarushi Bafna speaking about her work and discussing future plans.
