TOURS & TRAVELS OFFICE AT MUMBAI
This tours and travel’s office spreads across 2200 sq.ft. The subtle look of the office included grey glazed tiles for the floor with inlays of rustic grey tiles to break the monotony, whites and greys in the form of laminates. Wooden laminate added the little warmth needed to balance the subtle look blue colour breaks the masses. Texture was introduced by an exposed brick work partition but again painted in white to maintain the “subtleness”. Any partition be it the brick wall or the grey one or the wooden rafters, all ended at 8’-0” height in to glasses. The partitions ending into glasses was advantageous in 2 ways firstly the ceiling of full office was visible through the glass from any point or any area which gave a feeling of continuity, spaciousness, and the other advantage was that the partitions or rafters being 8 ft. in height did not receive any joint in the laminate (as laminate sheets are only 8 ft. in height.)
While conceptualizing the very first thing that came to our mind was the customers walking in should feel they are already on an international tour, they should be surrounded by the places they want to visit. The partition dividing the two areas, of reception and sales would have been inevitable hence had to be something of interest to the customers walking in. Hence a glass partition with a translucent film, with composition of various monuments, places of attractions the names of countries, which this company includes in their travel, was conceptualized on the very first day of conceptualization. We wanted to keep the overall look very light, mainly on the lines of whites and greys hence the glass film was also taken in shades of grey.
The filmed glass backdrop of the reception was given wooden beams intersecting the glass and hanging over the sales area also these beams when standing exactly at the thickness of the glass partition gave an illusion of actually penetrating the glass to enter the sales area.
The ceiling in the open area of reception and sales is kept plain and simple. The sales area had grid ceiling and panel lights. We wanted to keep the ceilings plain deliberately and get the focus on the partition details and the sales enclosures. The longest partition was formed by the two cabins of the CEO’s and the visa department. This partition was a combination of glass, rafters with lights and panels which included doors in them.
The last ‘L’ shaped rafter in this partition continued inside as a partition between the two cabins. This partition was a sliding folding partition which the client needed to open up to form a conference area during big meetings and closing that would give two separate cabins. The cabin’s had their tables almost in the center with back runners against the windows. They were given a short back drop in the form of double, stepped panel. A blue shelf in these panel and the blue pendants above the tables, gave a suggestive colour touch in these cabins. The cabin at the periphery had a large column to deal with, that column was jacketed by a grooved panel of grey laminate. To break this huge column mass and convert that in to feature was met with an idea of creating a checkered display to house souvenirs from different parts of the world. The levels of the display were played with at the corner taking into consideration the human height. The ceiling of these two cabins was shown as one and was just given grooves to avoid a plain look . Sales area cubicles were given a little shelter by giving an extension to the backs of the enclosure in the form of ‘L’ shaped rafters. The long white brick partition was accessorized by adding grey boxes with blue glass give backdrop to the souvenirs. In and all the office fully marks the travel companies atmosphere from reception to sales and the cabins.
