Sangam Bungalow at Dombivli
The one thing that any home owner wants to experience upon returning from a hard day’s work is the feeling of being enveloped in a cocoon of serenity. This, one would feel, is the overriding emotion at this spacious bungalow in Dombivli,Thane. Away from the noise on the streets and stress of work, Architect Manjiri Desai of Manjiri Desai & Associates has fashioned a home that is devoid of clutter and brimming with sunny energy. In today’s harried times, this dose of simple living seems to be just what the doctor orders.
Subtle, Unpretentious, Warm.
From the very beginning the clients yearned for a contemporary setting that would comply with the family’s requirements. They desired for an aesthetic house that utilized space efficiently and exhibit a sense of openness. This space is a direct reflection of all the personality traits that the clients, Mr. & Mrs. Madhav Singh seem to possess.
As you enter the living area, you notice that the space flaunts clean lines and an open floor plan; the double height space and the large openings on the ground level flood the space with ample natural light. This has further helped to enhance the space and make the house look big and clutter-free.
In the double height space, hanging from the ceiling is a bronze chandelier which seems to be the focal point of this void. The architect specified a modern art painting on the wall above main door which gives a hint of colour to this otherwise neutral space.
The beige Italian marble flooring is in sync with the neutral colour scheme of the upholstery. A niche created by rafters from floor to ceiling with colour changing diffused lights beautifies and acts as a highlight of the seating area. Another highlight in this area is the staircase; a combination of wood and Italian marble, it is one of the most dramatic elements of the house.
On the first floor, the staircase opens out into a central space where photographs of the family create a feature wall for this space.
The first floor is a private area that is demarcated with wooden flooring. The warmth of the dark richly-toned wood adds a sense of intimacy to the space.
The master bedroom is radically simple yet elegant with its leather laminated furniture, wooden flooring and white walls. It has a walk-in closet that has a floor to ceiling wardrobe.
The children’s bedroom is also on this floor marked by clean lines and starkly minimal forms. Dominated by a white colour scheme, this room contrasts beautifully with the wooden flooring and red back painted glass on the wardrobe. A four-piece single painting of a tree in 4 different colours adorns the wall behind the bed.
The guest bedroom is kept simple with dramatic tints. The minimal colours with thin LED strip light keep the decor simple and serene.
The puja room sets the tone for the design of the bungalow with its clean, contemporary lines.
All in all, modern decor elements like sheers, wallpapers, laminates, back-painted glass & soft furnishings exquisitely blend with simple yet stylish features which are incorporated to bring peace and serenity to the residence.
