Started in 2016, WADe Asia is Asia’s 1st platform for celebrating Women-led Development in Art, Architecture & Design! To bring forward awareness of works by female architects, artists and designers who are making a huge difference, and yet remain largely unsung and undocumented is one of the foremost objectives of WADe Asia. It is also about a common ground for women in creative pursuits to exchange ideas, recognize contribution, and discuss issues.
WADe Asia Awards is set to be the India’s largest celebration of architecture and design talent. And WADe 2018 is the 3rd annual mega event of WADe Asia Awards. Last year saw huge participation from all over India and representations from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Thailand. Let’s take a look at the last year’s winners of WADe ASIA Awards. WADe Asia Lifetime Achievement Award
Didi Contractor, Dharmshala: Didi Contractor is a self-taught architect working quietly in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas. Didi mostly builds with Adobe (sun dried bricks) and also incorporates other naturally locally available materials and techniques in her architecture, making them unique and special.
WADe India Sustainability Champion
Neelam Manjunath, Manasaram Architects, Bangalore: Neelam Manjunath is an architect, planner, scientist, activist & theoretician. She established her firm in 1991 at Bangalore and had been advocating usage of sustainable materials and technologies since then. She has also won several national and international awards including IIA Dharamastha Manjunatheshwara Award, World Architecture community award, Aga Khan Award for architecture nominee, Arcasia gold medal for sustainable project, amongst others.
WADe India Special Contribution Award For Academics & Social Cause
Neera Adarkar, Adarkar Associates, Mumbai: Neera Adarkar graduated from Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai and finished her post graduation from IIT Bombay. She has received Honorary Doctorate from University of Leuven, Belgium in 2014. She runs a joint practice under Adarkar Associates in architecture, heritage and research in Mumbai. She has also authored two award-winning books One Hundred Years One Hundred Voices and Oral History of Millworkers of Girangaon.
WADe India Special Contribution Award in Social Cause
Pratima Joshi, Shelter Associates, Pune: Pratima, a Masters of Architecture from Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, University College (London) has worked in the area of sustainable low cost housing and sanitation for the urban poor for nearly 25 years. Amongst her many accolades, include the Google Earth Hero Award (2009), only Indian to receive this award, Amazing Indian by Times Now (2011), Ashoka Fellowship for outstanding work as a social entrepreneur (2007), Aga Khan Scholarship in 1986, only Indian architect invited to speak at 24th World Congress of Architects in Tokyo (2011), and more.

About WADE Asia Conference & Awards
WADE ASIA is one of the most prestigious national conferences on Architecture, Design, Art and Engineering and the largest platform for women in design in Asia.
The 5th celebration of WADE ASIA's annual event will take place on the 09-10-11/ October/ 2020 at the NSIC Grounds, New Delhi with participation from INDIA and SOUTH EAST ASIA.
It happens concurrently with MATECIA Building Material Exhibition and IIR Conference & Awards. If you are working for the built environment or building material industry, you should NOT MISS attending WADE ASIA.
