The event was kicked off with the welcome note of Vertica Dvivedi, – Curator of the Talk of the town, founder of WADe Asia and Editor-In-Chief of Surfaces Reporter Magazine. She expressed how close this event is to her heart. Keynote speaker: Ar Sonali Rastogi, the founder-director of India’s leading award-winning Architecture and Urban Design practice – Morphogenesis. She shared her views on the topic entitled “Genesis of a Contemporary Indian Practice.” She stated, “Only three of a hundred companies are headed by a woman. And women are leading only three of the world’s 100 biggest architectural firms.”
After this, a story behind the making of ENCRAFT was presented. Later On, Satoshi Fujiura San and Mr. Jagadish Ahuja came on the stage to tell about their company AICA and gave a wonderful presentation on Evolving Decorative Laminate Surfaces. Then there was the beginning of first-panel discussion. The fantastic panel of architects and designers- Ar Madhav Raman, Ar Vivek Gupta, Ar Amit Gupta, Ar and Rajiv Khanna presented their creative perspectives on ‘Simplifying Engagement with Client’. The session was ably moderated by Ar Sabeena Khanna, Creative head of the Studio KIA. “The profession of architecture is because of the client. The client is God for me. However, the client can not tell you what would be the soul of the building. It is you who decide this,” said panellist Vivek Gupta at the talk of town event. Architect Vivek Gupta further stated, “Engagement with the client is important. Though the client is not literate, they know what they wanted.”
Subsequently, the mini-talks on relevant topics started by prominent guests-Olga Chepelianskai, founder of UNICITI on Building Sustainable, Building Unique, architect Vipul B Varshney gave on her latest book, Ar Shewta Kaw on Cognitive Architecture and Vandana Kothari on My City Your Stories. Mr. Shishir Bansal from Philips Lighting gave a wonderful presentation after that where he let people know about Interact Pro, which is a complete wire-based system that connects upto 200 lights. The second-panel discussion started by the intellectual panellists- Ar. Vijay Garg, Ar Akshat Bhatt, Ar Britta Knobel Gupta, Prof Manoj Mathur and Ar Amit Khanna engaged in a rich discussion on the topic “Are Architects adequately trained in universities to understand materials and construction processes?” This discussion was moderated by young and energetic, architect Manishi Agarwal.
The second mini talk included the speeches by Chandrika Sahay on Healthcare Design, Prerna Kapoor on architectural Travel And Its Key Role, Ashish Vaishnava on Golf Course Architecture and Design, and Amit Singh on Virtual Reality- Future of Architecture.
