CLIENT BRIEF and EXECUTION
Mindtickle, a Pune based company wanted their main office designed keeping in mind their work culture which doesn’t involve hierarchy in the form of personal cubicles or corner offices. They believe in a more informal co sharing atmosphere where everyone works in the same space and is able to learn off from each other. Keeping this in mind we decided to do the zoning as one large office with departments not demarcated by walls or partitions but by keeping informal seating areas between the different units. These informal seating spaces encourage different departments that surround them to sit together and share ideas and have constructive debates between co-workers. The only built space that was designed was the “Glass House” which consisted of a conference room and an infinity whiteboard discussion room.
The design theme of the office was a modern industrial look. To facilitate this, the ceiling was left exposed and the slab has a planned maze of pipes and conduits that are required for fire, lighting and Air conditioning. A mix of black and turquoise pendant lights have been used to add a pop of colour to the otherwise fully bare ceiling. Two massive hanging lights form the highlight of the central space, one with a more industrial look in the central informal area using wire mesh and the other having a more refined and formal look in the conference room.
MindTickle’s logo colour is orange, so that has been used as a predominant colour in certain elements of this office to personalise it and make it unique. All the informal areas have orange carpets which contrast the matte black flooring and ceiling and liven up these spaces.
The furniture has been custom designed to suit their needs. A sleek standing workstation allows for more informal discussions amongst a group, the unique orange glass storage has been designed as an industrial piece which allows the office goers who mainly use motorbikes to store their helmets as well as bags and also has a built in space for their TV and a small gaming area. Movable white boards are interspersed all around the work spaces as well as on most walls- even in the conference room. The Workstations are bounded by some fresh indoor plants to lend relief to the space
THE GLASS HOUSE
The Glass House is strategically located near the entrance of the office so as to allow anyone coming specially for a meeting to directly enter and leave without having to disturb the office work flow. This in turn also helped to divide the office into 2 zones. The “house” is enveloped in a clear glass and metal frame from 3 sides and the buildings glass facade on the 4th side, thus allowing maximum light to filter into the space.
The infinity white board is an extremely creative space which is bounded by white boards on 2 sides and clear glass on the other 2. All 4 sides of this cube can be used to write on and scribble ideas on. This makes for a very interactive space.
The cafeteria is on a semi open double heighted terrace which has sprawling views of the neighbouring locality. To keep the atmosphere here more informal , we introduced community themed picnic tables and benches made out of mango wood and sleek metal frames, where employees could sit in larger groups and interact at a more casual level.
Fresh plants like Champa and Kamini lend a lovely fragrance to the space especially when the air whisks through them. The plants also form a green barrier on one side preventing visibility of the cafe from the outside.
