This house is meant for a family of 6, and the client came with a clarity of having only 4 bedrooms and along with the common areas; drawing room, family room, kitchen, dining, informal sitting lounge and a study lounge. With a plot size of 17440 sft, I have still limited the construction to a nominal size of 4800 sft such that there is ample amount of green space left for the clients to enjoy.
This house is a perfect example of a good ratio between used and unused space. Both, the client and I, were clear to not make a huge bungalow, comprising of useless spaces. Thus I have diligently limited the sizes as required for each corner of the house.
Another plus of the project is that almost all the rooms open towards a garden or a courtyard. This means, green is visible through the big openings, from all corners of the house. The master bedroom on the first floor and the parent’s bedroom on the ground floor are the perfect examples of the same.
The highlight is also the various double heights provided in the planning. The double height spaces is perfect for providing a visual connect between both the floors. Internal courtyards with sky light and these double height spaces give the volume its lightness.
