ABOUT THE BOOK
A Blend of Contemporary and Traditional Ethos, Architectural Voices of India brings out the voices of 19 iconic architects from India across generations, conversing through dialogues about the core issues and perspectives around architecture. These voices bring to the forefront unique and inspirational journeys, varied design philosophies and building typologies, and weaves a narrative on the state of the profession in India and globally, the evolution of architecture and its universal impact, and a reflection on the new role that architects should play.
Tracing the trajectory of Indian architecture in modern times and reflecting on its theory, the book brings together some of the renowned “missionaries of Indian architecture”, including CN Raghavendran, Sanjay Mohe, Raj Rewal, Sandeep Khosla, Parul Zaveri and Nimish Patel, Ravindra Bhan, Kamal Malik, Shiv Datt Sharma, Jasbir Sawhney, BV Doshi, Sanjay Puri, Hafeez Contractor, Brinda Somaya, Prem Nath, Sonali and Manit Rastogi, Karan Grover and Christopher Benninger. A well-illustrated book with handmade sketches, technical drawings and images of seminal projects of the architects, two sections penned by the architects in each chapter throw glimpses into their personal lives and into a pet project.
The culmination of all their thoughts, which reflect diversity as well as unity are further analysed by the author, in the book’s concluding chapter “Reflections and Realisations”. The book that has takeaways for all genres of readers highlights the responsibility of architectural conversation/discourse and talks about architecture being an integral part of building a nation.
