The design of Cibo has developed around the true spirit of Italian architecture. Cities such as Florence-the cradle of Italian Renaissance gave us inspirational cues. During design and execution processes, the spirit of the Renaissance was a major guiding force. It is an eclectic representation of the ‘archetypal’ Italian courtyard.
With a grand central water feature of five monolithic stone fountains and surrounded by a colonnaded verandah of exposed circular brick columns, this is almost mythical in its context of the Janpath Hotel. Details like fish scale paving patterns, antique hand made tiles and beveled stained-glass doors enhance this aura. An over-layer of non-conforming elements like the bar-made of stone fireplaces, a metal grape fountain, gold-leafed statues add intrigue and meaning.
This also involved, studying the local materials and finishes like terracotta roofing tiles and old world distressed finishes to bring in the historical context to the design aesthetic of the place. The visual effect of cobbled flooring similar to the rhythm of the traditional fish scale pattern that you see through out the streets of Italy.
